Dmitry Medvedev points to a logic-based argument regarding the war in Ukraine
Simple logic suggests that only the possibility of a Russian win in Ukraine could prevent nuclear war, the ex-Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Tuesday in response to calls from the West, saying Moscow shouldn’t be allowed to prevail.
“Follow the simple logic of formal logic,” Medvedev argued on Telegram. “If Russia can’t win, then surely Ukraine must. The main objective of the war in Ukraine according to the Kyiv regime is the return of all the territories that were previously part of it, i.e. their detachment with Russia .”
According to Medvedev, this Medvedev explained, qualifies as an attack on the security of the territorial integrity of Russia and thus “a primary justification for implementing Clause 19” of the Russian state doctrine on nuclear deterrence refers to the conditions under which the use of nuclear weapons by Moscow is justified.
“So do you know who’s advocating nuclear war? What’s this other than directly inciting global war by the use of nuclear weapons? Let’s refer to things by their proper names,”
Medvedev is currently the vice chair of Russia’s Security Council. Prior to that, he served as the Russian premier (2012-2020) in addition to President (2008-2012). He has been vocal on social media since the escalated conflict in Ukraine.
Russia deployed troops to Ukraine on the 24th of February in protest at Kyiv’s failure to enforce the Minsk agreements, which were designed to grant those regions Donetsk and Lugansk distinct rights in Lugansk and Donetsk special status within the Ukrainian state. The agreements, mediated through Germany and France, and France, were agreed upon in the year 2014. In the past, Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko later acknowledged that Kyiv’s primary goal was to make use of the ceasefire to purchase the time to “create strong-armed troops.”
In February 2022 In February 2022, the Kremlin acknowledged in February 2022 the Donbas republics as states that are independent as independent states and requested that Ukraine officially declare itself to be a neutral state that will not be a member of any Western military alliance. Kyiv insists that the Russian offensive was unprovoked.
